advocate

Business Action for Africa advocates for the policies needed to drive growth and wealth creation in Africa, and to facilitate business engagement in tackling development issues.

Business has a critical role to play in accelerating growth and wealth creation in Africa. We believe that the greatest contribution business can make is by doing good business: generating jobs and economic opportunities, innovative goods and services, and the tax revenues needed to fund public services. Businesses are increasingly innovating around commercially viable business models that bring enhanced development impacts.

Governments, donors and civil society organisations are important partners in building an enabling environment for businesses of all sizes, and ensuring poor people are able to access the economic opportunities that are generated.

The New Africa: Emerging Opportunities for Business and Africa

The world is waking up to a new Africa. The predominant theme in the emerging narrative is no longer war, famine and disease but rather strong economic performance. Investors are realising that Africa is good for business. Strong economic growth, business friendly reforms, mature financial institutions and some large economies add up to an enticing proposition.  Increased investor interest is also having a beneficial impact on many African countries. Investment is creating jobs which have a wide ripple effect. And foreign companies are helping to develop domestic industries through the transfer of skills and technology and by generating demand for extended supply chains.

Our Report – produced in partnership with Ernst and Young – covers three themes: Africa’s Prospects are Improving; Africa is Good for Business; and Business is Good for Africa.  Leaders from business and other sectors share their insights on these themes, with a core message being that Africa has turned a new page. The prospects look bright and this is only the start of the story.
