African Leadership Institute
The African Leadership Institute (AfLI) is a not for profit organisation focused on nurturing the leadership capabilities of high potential young Africans in the 25-40 age range, working in partnership with institutions in various African countries, and with Oxford University. Emphasis is on African leadership in a global context.
AfLI designs, develops and runs innovative leadership programmes in collaboration with our partners, with a dual purpose of establishing a continent-wide alumni network of young African leaders to enable them to continue to interact and explore African leadership issues and ideas.
governace and transparency
The flagship programme of the Institute is the Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship Programme, run in partnership with Oxford, providing a multi-faceted leadership learning experience in a part-time 9 month programme.
World class faculty from Oxford and Africa, as well as established leaders from all sectors of society share their experiences and explore the basis of good and successful leadership in Africa. Fellows are selected via a rigorous nomination process to seek out the cream of Africa’s future leaders in all spheres.
human development
AfLI’s focus is on building the capacity and capabilities of Africa’s future leaders, as illustrated by the Tutu Fellowship Programme. In addition, as part of their programme, the Tutu Fellows are required to lead a community project, and thus extend the learning to a broader community.
AfLI is also developing a programme specifically for civil society leaders across Africa, and other leadership oriented initiatives in specific countries.
perceptions of africa
The scenario methodology, which is used in many of our programmes is about developing stories of the future based on alternative perceptions of the determining forces. Very important are the continent’s future leaders own
