Africa Image Alliance
African Image Alliance is an independent organisation which seeks to enhance the general public's understanding of Africa's diverse culture, heritage and contemporary society through our innovative strand of public programmes, services, consultation advice and events.
At African Image Alliance, we believe the promotion and visibility of a positive African environment within society-at-large can and will, play a significant role in creating cultural pride, encourage good business practice and sound investment in African businesses.
perceptions of africa
At African Image Alliance, our mission is to promote a more positive and balanced portrayal of Africa and changing the perceptions, or more accurately, misconceptions of Africa is our primary focus area.
The subject: ‘Perceptions of Africa’ is vast and generalistic. In our experience, Africa actually receives both positive and negative press. African music, arts and culture consistently receive a generous proportion of positive media coverage in the west - these areas are in fact one of most powerful relatively un-tapped communications tools for changing the misconceptions of Africa.
Negative perceptions prevail, because repeated images of ‘Africa as a country’ is in a constant state of war, starvation, corruption and instability. These news-driven items follow a well known media term ‘if it bleeds it leads’ format.
Our founder and core founding members are all experienced media broadcasters and journalists who understand the importance of cultivating positive media coverage for African issues and how to achieve this, utilizing our existing relationships within the western mainstream media.
Our areas of expertise lie in New Media, Entertainment, Visual Arts, Performance, Education and Cultural Heritage Sectors alongside Marketing and Re-branding initiatives to encourage inward investment.
