GeoVision
GeoVision is a sole-practice organisation run by Paul Shaw, a chartered Geomatics surveyor based in Dunblane, in central Scotland, United Kingdom. Paul has worked in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India and has experience in all aspects of geospatial information including remote sensing, which is possibly the most relevant discipline for Africa.
Africa is an ‘information desert’, and remote sensing provides a rapid way of gathering information to enable properly planned development to take place. GeoVision has recently submitted a proposal to the Scottish Executive International Development Fund to provide 12,000 square kilometres of mapping using very high resolution satellite imagery to support two World Bank funded projects in Malawi.
human development
GeoVision's planned activity in Malawi is to supply and train government, non-government, private practice and the university sector in very high-resolution satellite imagery (VHRS) and processing software.
VHRS is a rapid way of mapping large areas of land quickly. The mapping will support two World Bank funded projects - an infrastructure development program and a national water development program.
The mapping will be incorporated into an engineering design package into which will be layered all the gravity-fed water intakes and a range of other relevant information. From this government engineers will be able to design water supply systems. The mapping will be given freely to all relevant charities. It will also be used as a basis by the National Mapping Agency for a new map series of the country.
